May 24, 2012 by Screenmag
The Chicago Screenwriters Network has announced a two-day pitch session/workshop on July 14th and 15th.
Their featured guests speakers include: Leading script consultant, Danny Manus, former Director of Development at Clifford Werber Productions, CEO of No Bull-Script Consulting. Janet Jeffries, Development Executive, Lawrence Bender Productions and Ryan Cunningham, Manager, Madhouse Entertainment.
The weekend kicks off with Danny Manus teaching three 90-minute courses on Saturday, July 14th from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Loglines, Query Letters & One-Sheets:
This class will cover how to construct proper loglines, query letters and one-sheets, the difference between loglines and taglines, what executives are looking for in each, and how to write ones that grab attention and sell. We’ll go through loglines of major Hollywood films. Writers should bring their project’s loglines with them and CSN will rework and improve each one.
12 Steps To A Screen-Worthy Script:
This class will cover 12 steps to ensure your concept and script will be screen-worthy, including doing your research, developing your hook, writing your natural story, creating great set pieces and subplots, and how to create compelling characters and dialogue. You’ll learn how to create your own conflict/stakes graph (exclusive to No Bull-Script), which will ensure your story is compelling and cinematic. By the end of this class, you will have completed exercises that will help you develop your projects and know if you’ve got a winner.
The No B.S. Guide to Pitching Workshop:
This no-nonsense guide will cover the do’s and don’ts of pitching and pitching strategies, who should be pitching and who shouldn’t, what you should and should not be pitching, what execs are really looking for, how to prepare your pitch, what to include in your first minute, step by step mechanics of pitching at pitchfests, the perfect trailer pitch, how an exec hears/interprets a pitch, the magic one-sheet, and hilarious horror stories. Danny will also be critiquing and fixing your pitches.
Then between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon attendees will pitch:
Danny Manus
Janet Jeffries
Ryan Cunningham
Stay for a special Sunday night meeting as Danny, Janet and Ryan sit down with our very own Linda Frothingham to discuss “the business” and how to break in.
