The Martin Agency Names Joe Alexander Executive Creative Director

The Martin Agency announced Friday that Joe Alexander has been promoted to executive creative director. Alexander has been a part of the creative department since 1991 and most recently served as one of the agency’s six group creative directors.

“Joe is a gifted writer, a masterful coach and mentor, an insightful recruiter of creative talent and the lead creative on our largest client -- Walmart,” said John Norman, chief creative officer of The Martin Agency. “He is part of the great creative heritage of The Martin Agency and an early adopter of all things interactive and social. He has a deep respect for the craft of our business and an insatiable curiosity about what’s next. That’s a powerful combination.”

Alexander has been the creative director on the agency’s PING account for 17 years. He played an integral role on the UPS Whiteboard team, producing 52 spots over the course of three years. In 2009, Alexander launched the American Cancer Society’s More Birthdays campaign, serving as GCD and director to Usher, Rihanna and Justin Bieber in their respective spots. Joe became the GCD on Walmart in 2011.

Alexander has won every major ad award, including multiple One Show pencils. In 2010, his team’s recreation of the Apollo 11 moon landing, wechoosethemoon.org, won five Cannes Lions and was selected one of the “Best of the Digital Decade” by The One Club.

Prior to joining The Martin Agency, Joe worked at TBWAChiatDay and started his career in Minneapolis.
